Typical Tier 2 Capabilities to Specify:

Ultrasonic Welding

For creating solid-state splices (joining multiple wires without a crimp band). Requires specialized Schunk or Branson equipment. Crucial for high-current and EV applications to minimize resistance.

Low-Pressure Overmolding

Using Macromelt or similar polyamides to encapsulate the rear of a connector or a splice block. Provides IP67+ sealing and extreme strain relief without damaging delicate PCB components.

Braiding / Looming

Automated machinery for applying nylon or Nomex braiding over the harness. Provides superior abrasion resistance compared to standard corrugated slit tubing, often required in engine bays.

High-Voltage Processing

Handling thick (e.g., 50mm²+) orange shielded cables for EVs. Requires specialized rotary stripping machines to cut the foil/braid shield without nicking the inner dielectric, and large-tonnage hydraulic crimp presses.
